Varieties of English Experience

Our imagination is stretched to the utmost, not, as in fiction, to imagine things which are not really there, but just to comprehend those things which are. - Richard P. Feynman

Language: 1st Multimedia Composition Version 2

This is the 2nd version of the first multimedia composition. I composed this version in Adobe Acrobat to take a different approach to the word ‘language’. I suppose one of the two I created could just be considered an extra. Remember it’s a .pdf file so you will need Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader to view this.

Language: 1st Multimedia Composition Version 1

Here is one of two versions of the first multimedia composition. I’m re-posting this just in case there is any confusion on locating it. Like I said, this is one of two versions, so there is another version I will post. Both versions are centered on the word “Language”. Yet both take somewhat different interpretations on the word. I created two versions in order to express different perspectives and see what kind of meanings emerge. Hope you enjoy it.

2nd Multimedia Composition

This is my second multimedia composition which centered in on the word ‘meaning’. I composed this in Word 2007 since Professor Loan challenged me to take a more difficult approach to expressing my ideas. The limited abilities of Word 2007 did prove to be a challenge, but I feel my ideas and thoughts were conveyed properly in this medium.

To narrate my piece, basically my view is that there is a progression from basic to more complex ideas. I added the brain with pictures of the telephone wires and circuitry to show that our thinking is connected to various things. Of course you have to look at my work and do some interpretation, but that’s exactly what I want. If the meanings of the pictures and phrases was obvious I don’t think my essay would be very effective or very interesting. So I made sure to made some abstract illustrations and integrate various items to make the viewer really interested in what I’ve created.

Hope you enjoy.

This is the final draft of my essay. I really enjoyed writing this paper. I feel very strongly that this essay captures a sense of rhythm science that Professor Loan was speaking of. Incorporating the various media really helped elicit more ways of thinking about the word ‘meaning’, and helped me write more on my ‘stance’. I had a good time learning and experiencing more this semester. Load offers some of the best English classes I’ve ever had. Plus, he offers a unique insight into English that I never knew existed.

The format is Microsoft Office 2007 word. I hope those of you that download my paper have the right program to view my essay.

Once again, it was nice being in class with you all.
